Billing Reminders Overview

Billing reminders are designed to trigger at a scheduled time before a subscription's billing date. They can be used to send an email, fire a script, or notify Zapier.

Billing reminders can send upcoming payment notifications at the end of a trial or for monthly and yearly subscription payments. The Zapier or scripting options can expand functionality for custom requirements or even allow the use of third-party email systems.

The Billing Reminder system can help you adhere to any legal requirements your local government or payment vendors may require about notification of upcoming payments.

Creating a Billing Reminder
  1. From the WordPress Dashboard, go to MemberMouse > Payment Settings and then click on the Reminders tab.

  2. Click the green Create Reminder button and a dialog will pop up where you'll configure your reminder.

  3. If you want the reminder to function immediately after it has been saved, make sure that the Status is set to Active. If you do not want it to function, set the Status to Inactive.

  4. Under the When to send… heading, enter the desired timing trigger. For example, 7 days before the next payment is a common time to notify a user of an upcoming payment.

  5. Under the Applies to … heading, you can set the reminder to work with All Products. Or choose Selected Products, if you want to create additional Reminders for unique emails per product.

  6. Under the Action … heading, you can select Send an EmailNotify Zapier, or Call a Custom Script from the drop down menu.

  7. If you choose to Send an Email, you will be given the option to craft an email to send at the programmed time intervals. An example template is included, but you should update it to meet your needs. HTML can be included in the body of the email.

  8. Finish filling out the To and From details and click the Save Reminder button to save your settings..

  9. You will be taken to the overview Reminders screen, where you can view all of your configured Reminders. From here, you can choose to Edit, Delete, or Send a Test Reminder for the notification.

Troubleshooting Reminders
  • MemberMouse controls billing dates for onsite processors such as Stripe, so a billing reminder can be sent with accurate timing. Offsite processors like PayPal or ClickBank control rebill dates. In those cases, MemberMouse estimates those billing dates, and you may see slight variations in sending times and actual billing times.
  • The data required for billing reminders is generated at purchase time and when subscriptions rebill. For customers upgrading from previous MemberMouse versions, this means existing subscriptions must rebill once on the latest version before reminders can be sent.
