“Virtual Gift Card” How-To: 3 Methods Explained

With MemberMouse, you can create a “virtual gift card” in a few different ways. Below, you will find 3 different approaches outlined. A method that can be used to send a gift card to all your members, a method that uses SmartTags™ to dynamically offer the gift card to different membership levels, and finally, a method that allows your members to purchase a gift card.

NOTE: “Virtual Gift Cards” created using the below methods are one-time use only, and the balances will be completely consumed on use; so the balance will not “roll over”.

1. Emailing “Virtual Gift Card” How-To

For this example, let’s create a $25 gift card to send to all of our members to use on any future purchase. Here’s one way to do it:

  1. You will need to Create a Coupon with a $25 discount. (If you want to apply an expiration date to the “gift card”, set an end date) It will look something like this:

  2. Send coupon code (a.k.a. “gift card”) to your members using your preferred email integration. Include the gift card and instructions on how to use it. Here is an example below:

    Happy Holidays!

Save $25 on your next purchase at MemberMouse.com using this free Gift Card!

To redeem this gift card, enter the following Gift Card Number into the coupon field on the checkout page.

    Virtual Gift Card Number: HOLIDAYGIFT

PLEASE NOTE: This gift card can only be used on MemberMouse.com until the 31st of December 2023. This is a one-time use gift card with a balance that is completely consumed on use. This will allow your users to apply the gift card to a future purchase until the 31st of December this year, after that, the "gift card" will no longer work.
2. SmartTag™ Offer “Virtual Gift Card” How-To

For this example, we'll use the same $25 gift card for use on a future purchase, but instead of emailing it out, we will set up a Member Decision SmartTag on a page to offer the gift card to users with a specific Membership Level. Here’s one way to do it:

  1. First, you will need to Create a Coupon with a $25 discount. (If you want to apply an expiration date to the “gift card”, set an end date) It will look something like this:

  2. Create a SmartTag™ Equation to show your Gift Card offer to members with your chosen membership level. Here is an example using the “Free Membership” membership level, and making it specific to the user by inputing their first name:

PLEASE NOTE: This gift card can only be used on MemberMouse.com until the 31st of December 2023. This is a one-time use gift card with a balance that is completely consumed on use.

Here is an example of how this will look to a user with a “Free Membership” when they visit that page:

3. Allow Members to Purchase “Virtual Gift Card” How-To

For this example, we'll use the same $25 gift card for use on a future purchase, but instead of directly emailing a gift card, or using SmartTags™, we will set up a Bundle and Push Notification to offer the ability for your members to purchase a virtual gift card, and receive an email with the gift card and instructions on redemption.

Here’s one approach to this idea:

  1. First, you will need to Create a Coupon with a $25 discount to represent the gift card. (If you want to apply an expiration date to the “gift card”, set an end date) It will look something like this:

  2. Create a Product to represent the price of the $25 Gift Card. This will later be tied to a bundle. Here is an example of what this might look like:

  3. Create a Bundle that will be used to trigger the Push Notification, and assign it to the product created in the previous step. Here is is what this might look like:

  4. Create a Push Notification that is linked to that bundle we just created. This is where we input the email with instructions on how to redeem the gift card. This is what it may look like when finished:

(Below is the exact email template used in the example above)

Happy Holidays [MM_Member_Data name='firstName']!
